Local4Global consortium The Local4Global consortium includes seven partners from four European countries. Three of them are European Union members, namely Germany, Spain, Greece and one is a third country, namely Switzerland. All partners have high competences and innovation capabilities related to the Local4Global objectives in scientific, technological, innovation and business scenarios domains. The Centre for Research and Technology, Hellas (CERTH-ITI) is the project coordinator. The Centre for Research and Technology Hellas (CERTH) is one of the largest research centre in Greece. The Information Technologies Institute (CERTH-ITI) is specialized in the area of informatics and telecommunications. CERTH-ITI is the Project Coordinator, represented by Prof. Elias Kosmatopoulos' research group. The Swiss Federal Institute of Technology, ETH Zurich is a community of 20,000 people from 80 nations who study, do research or are employed there. Applications areas of the theoretical methods and computational tools include air traffic management, biological systems, camera networks and, of immediate relevance to the project, building automation. RWTH Aachen University, established in 1870, is divided into 9 faculties. The Institute for Energy Efficient Buildings and Indoor Climate that will carry out the work within the project is part of the E.ON Energy Research Centre. The institute has excellent facilities of measuring and analysis methods for energy systems and comfort measurements. Ik4 is a private technological centre. Its mission is to help the industrial sector to increase its innovative capacity by means of generating and applying technology and knowledge in order to be more competitive. It was founded in 1981 and counts with over 290 personnel. Two units will be mainly involved in this project: Electronics and Communications Unit and The Unit of intelligent information systems. TRANSVER GmbH, located in Munich, Germany, is an engineering and consulting company focusing on transport planning, traffic management and research and providing services in the area of traffic engineering. TRANSVER’s working experience includes research and development of urban and interurban traffic management and control, intelligent transport systems and transport telematics, data bases, traffic information services and improvement of traffic safety. The Technical University of Crete (TUC) was founded in 1977 in Chania (Crete) and received its first students in 1984. The mission of the institution is to promote research and education in old and new engineering fields, as well as to develop links with Greek industry. The particular unit that will carry out the work within the project is the Dynamic Systems and Simulation Laboratory (DSSL), which has been headed since 1994 by Prof. Markos Papageorgiou. The Technische Universtität Muenchen has a unique profile with its core domains natural sciences, engineering, life sciences, and medicine. The institutional strategy of the 13 academic departments is focused on strengthening the excellence of disciplinary core competences in research, teaching and learning, but is also targeted towards the promotion of ground-breaking, interdisciplinary research. The Institute of Ergonomic has a strong background and long lasting experience in user centred research.
